Living in the moment is like watching a flower bloom in the spring

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

Few things in life are as important as living in the moment. In reality, it is all that a person has. The past is nothing more than hazy shades that exist within one's own mind. The future is intangible and may never even come for some. For this reason, personal development only comes when individuals live each moment to its fullest.

This is why Ilchi Lee recommends techniques like meditation. This helps people to focus their thoughts on the moment and can enable them to leave behind their preoccupations with the past and future.

"It is most rewarding to cultivate flowers of happiness here and now, rather than in the past or future," Lee said. "Those who have grown many flowers of happiness are not easily shaken by stress. They smile and let worries just pass by."

While the cultivation of any crop requires patience and determination, when springtime comes and the flowers begin to bloom, their smell may be so sweet that a person can't help but rejoice in the moment and recognize the personal development they have accomplished.

UCA increases brain education offerings

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

A number of individuals are looking to push their brain potential further in order to make sure that they are at the top of their game in the professional world. As the market continues to be difficult, more adults are choosing to go back to school through convenient programs such as online and night classes.

The University of Central Arkansas (UCA) reports that it will offer new online and evening programs in order to help working adults who are looking to pursue an education. School officials suggest that this will be a way to make sure that people are receiving the education they need in order to get ahead at a time when education is essential within today's market.

"UCA understands that not everyone can pursue a college degree during the day," said Lance Grahn, the provost and vice president for academic affairs. "That is why we are expanding our evening and online programs with the addition of three undergraduate majors that can be earned with evening and online classes: general business, history and speech communication."

Many people want to study Ilchi Lee's beliefs on health in order to understand the full human body and psyche. There are also other opportunities in which people can increase their knowledge in the human mind and spirit.

Almeda University announced that it would be offering new degree programs in the school's psychology sector. There will be various levels of curriculum depending on what kind of background the prospective student is looking for.

A degree that will be offered is a master's of clinical psychology program that will be available completely online. The school will give students the opportunity to get the groundwork going through this program to pursue their doctoral study, as this is typically required for most clinical psychologist jobs.

Students who are simply looking for the entry level of education may be impressed by the school's new bachelor's of science in forensic psychology program, which will offer the basics of the field and hopefully give students the foundations they need to take their education further.

Ignoring the gossip is key to spiritual growth

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

Most people concern themselves with things their friends and family are doing, the latest antics of their favorite celebrities or the new political scandal that their representatives are involved in. However, Ilchi Lee says that concerning one's self with other people is like putting up a roadblock in the middle of the highway of spiritual growth.

He says that for a person to live a fulfilling and satisfying life it is important for them to let go of all the things they think about other people and embrace the idea of nothingness. This will allow their mind to develop and reach its full potential. It will also help reduce stress in one's life.

"If you have ego, and are conscious of yourself and others, it is difficult to live well," Lee said. "When you are struggling, or in conflict, don't fall into agony but clear your mind of everything and think of 'nothingness.'"

It may seem difficult for a person to let go of patterns of thought that involve other people, which may have developed into strong habits over the years. However, doing so can increase an individual's chances of experiencing spiritual growth.

Individuals need to remember that anything is possible

Monday, June 27th, 2011

In life, everyone becomes discouraged from time to time. There will occasionally be moments in an individuals' life in which he or she wishes to give up. However, Ilchi Lee has instructed that "in moments of doubt, make fists and shout to yourself three times, 'I can do anything!'" Practicing this aphorism may help when circumstances seem overwhelming.

An excellent place to remind yourself that you can do anything is Sebago Lake, Maine. This body of water is incredibly serene and still, especially in the early morning. Individuals who visit this place seeking to achieve personal growth should wake at dawn and engage in meditation or yoga on the beach. One can even practice making fists and shouting 'I can do anything' in peace before anyone else wakes up.

On Sebago Lake, one can swim, kayak, fish or simply relax in the serene atmosphere that this area provides. The body of water is surrounded by forests, which makes the lake seem even more secluded and peaceful. After a short period of time here, visitors are sure to feel relaxed, recharged and ready to do anything.

Death is an important part of life

Friday, June 24th, 2011

Author and philosopher Ilchi Lee has long said that individuals must let go of their attachments to others, as this is the only true path to personal development. But he also says that letting go one’s attachment to their own life may be just as important.

“Life is something you play well with, and then let go when it's time. To really play well, you should let go of your attachment, even to yourself,” Lee said.

This may seem like a difficult concept to grasp. No one ever wants to die, and most people would do just about everything they can to hold on to life. But Lee says that this is not healthy in the end.

The time comes eventually for everyone. We can no more forestall the hour of our death than we can hold back the tide. Therefore, embracing death as a natural and beautiful aspect of life can help a person gain a perspective that makes the time they have more fulfilling.

Coming to terms with one’s eventual demise may seem like an odd path toward personal development, but it can engender important new perspectives.

One can gain perspective on life in India

Friday, June 24th, 2011

Ilchi Lee has said that "when we lose sincerity, we become lazy and discontented." In the busy world that we live in, sometimes we lose sight of the important things in life as we strive for success. In the corporate world, the desire for wealth and power can occasionally displace compassion and care for others. In order to restore balance and harmony in one's life and avoid becoming a lazy and unhappy person, it may help to give back to others and restore priorities.

A great place to volunteer is in the slums of India. Palampur in particular has a very poor population and embraces the efforts of helpful individuals in its orphanages. There are many programs that one can get involved with that will coordinate their efforts and find them a place to become involved.

Another fantastic thing about Palampur, aside from the incredible opportunities to make a lasting change in some one's life, is that it is very peaceful. There are many temples and parks in this city where individuals can walk and meditate. One may find that they have experienced spiritual healing after spending time in India.

Individuals should be aware of their potential

Friday, June 24th, 2011

It is very important for people to understand that while everyone experiences limitations in their lives, there are always opportunities to overcome these challenges. Ilchi Lee tells us that we must "find every possible strength" and "admire our infinite potential." In order to do this, it may be helpful to set a goal and strive towards achieving it.

When we set goals for ourselves, we are identifying the potential that exists within. Establishing what we would like to achieve helps us to discover our strengths and work on our weaknesses. Walking is an exercise that may be excellent for figuring out what sort of goal you should set. Taking in the outdoors while exerting oneself physically is a fantastic way to clear one's mind and meditate on possibly strategies.

Marco Island, Florida, is a great place to engage in such a walk. This coastal destination is located near Naples and is very peaceful and quiet. One can contemplate what sort of personal change they wish to enact while strolling along the shore. The peaceful atmosphere that this place affords should help individuals form a plan for goal setting and achieving.

Ilchi Lee recommends loneliness as path to enlightenment

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

The prospect of living alone terrifies most people. It is common to hear individuals who are not married around the age of 30 to begin talking about how they do not want to be alone for the rest of their lives. However, through loneliness, one often finds enlightenment and is capable of developing their true self more fully.

For this reason, Ilchi Lee says that more people should embrace their time. Rather than being afraid of the consequences of never finding a partner, one should think of the opportunities that this type of life presents.

"One who knows that life is essentially a solo journey in parallel with others, is bold and confident. Real peace, love and harmony come about from that brilliant loneliness," Lee said.

This notion may run counter to everything a person is conditioned to believe. Most individuals are told from a young age that happiness comes from sharing connections with people. However, the only person that an individual can count on in their life is their own self. Therefore, more people should be ready to boldly face their loneliness and embrace the opportunity.

Woody Allen’s filmography tracks his personal development

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Filmmakers who have been active for a long time often display a personal development over their entire body of work, where fans can chart an evolution in how they see and perceive the world. That's definitely true of the filmmaker, writer and actor Woody Allen, one of Hollywood's most prolific directors.

Ilchi Lee says "What life story will you write today? We make a new chapter every day. When you know that you are writer, director, and lead character, true creation begins." The celebrated creator of Dahn Yoga is speaking figuratively, but one could say that this literally applies to Allen. He is one of the rare figures in Hollywood to step both behind and in front of the camera, a trait that makes his films intensely personal.

A great example is his 1976 film Annie Hall, generally regarded as a modern masterpiece. The film – written, directed and starring Allen – chronicles the relationship between himself and Annie Hall (Diane Keaton). Making the film even more personal is the fact Allen and Keaton were actually in a relationship for several years before the film was made.

Over the years, Allen would go on to chronicle his thoughts and ideas in a wealth of other movies, working at a blistering pace and sometimes releasing multiple films per year. Sometimes Allen himself acts in the film, while other times he enlists others to play the "Woody" role – notable actors such as John Cusack, Kenneth Branagh, and Larry David. While not all the films are winners, one thing is for sure – watching these films is a perfect way to gain insight into one of the funniest and sharpest minds in Hollywood.
