Knowledge of Ki-energy is extremely beneficial prior to beginning the Dahn-Jon Breathing exercises. Ki-energy flows through the human body in three different ways:

Won-Ki, Jong-Ki and Jin-Ki. “Won” means “innate,” “Jong” means “stamina or strength,” and “Jin” means “true or genuine.”

1) Won-Ki : The first type of Ki-energy is inherited energy Human beings receive this energy at birth from their parents.
2) Jong-Ki : The second type of Ki-energy is acquired energy from nourishment. This energy source is replenished through diet and respiration.
3) Jin-Ki : The third type of Ki-energy is received through relaxed concentration.

Dahnhak is a holistic health program that teaches people how to utilize Ki-energy. “Dahn” means “engery, vitality, and origin of life,” and “hak” means “study, philosophy and theory.”

This program supports healthy ways of living and encourages the desire to seek Human Perfection. The philosophy of Dahnhak is based on the belief that human perfectibility is attainable, irrespective of sex, age or race. The Dahnhak program gives people an intergrated method to discover for themselves their relationship to their body, their mind, and finally to ultimate reality, their “True self.”

It was a still, starry night.
One shining star suddenly came into me and whispered.
It is your eyes that are watching the stars shining over there,
and it is your ears, not you,
that hear the raindrops
flowing down the window.
I used to think I was watching the stars
and I was hearing the raindrops.
Now I see once more with awakened eyes
and I hear once again with opened ears,
to realize I am the shining star,
and I am the raindrop.
The bright star sparkled once again
to show me that I am
neigher the shining star nor the raindrop.
I found out who I am and everything became clear.
Words fail to say the unspeakable and indescribable.
Starts are still shining on the sky through the window
and raindrops are still falling in the same way.

How happy I feel on the way to my self!
I’m on the happy road to find the self.
If you go astray leaving the self,
You will have aching feet
before going Ten Miles.

What a joy I’m having on the way to my spirit!
I’m on the happy road to meet the spirit.
If you go astray leaving the spirit,
You will have aching feet before
reaching the Tenth Village.

I am happy on teh way to Our self.
I’m on the happy road to join our self.
If you go astray leaving our self in yourself,
Your aching feet will fail you
far away from the city of ten.

* The word “Ten” in Korean means perfection and enlightenment.

Survival on this planet is dependent upon the truth that “Our neighbors are the same as ourselves.” All living things are interconnected.

All of humanity can experience what Jesus, the Buddha, and Krishna taught. When this happens, people will begin living their lives, not individually but collectively, in a way that is called “enlightened.”

Enlightenment or spiritual self-completion is no longer a personal achievement. This growth in human consciousness must become a massive social movement, a universal life-styple, and eventually a global culture.

When this happens, the human race will be able to deal with pressing issues from a unified, global perspective. These ideas are not dreams. Enlightenment for the human race is possible right now.

There is a way to build an “enlightened culture” by reawakening the senses and rediscovering the inner light. Conflicts can dissolve. Relationships can improve. Consciousness can arise. The human race can move past the present global struggles for survival into a new way of living on Earth.

This is not an intellectual his is a movement based on the spontaneous awareness of people.

The second Chakra is located at the very end of the tailbone. In order to activate the second Chakra, concentrate on your lower Dahn-jon, which is located about two inches below your navel. The second Chakra connects to the prostate gland in men. In women, it is connected to the uterus. It is also connected to the reproductive organs, bladder, and kidneys. When you breathe in, imagine a stream of air entering your body through the ‘Myung-moon’ point in your lower back, curling and swirling as it enters… when you breathe out, imagine the stream of air uncurling as it exits. When you breathe in, your lower abdomen expands when your breathe out… your lower abdomen contracts… continue breathing as you are feeling your Dahn-jon, the second Chakra.
You may feel emptiness in your lower Dahn-jon, you may experience a feeling of fullness… silently follow the path of your breath. You will feel warmth in your Dahn-jon. You may feel a beating pulse coming alive.

Ilchi Lee suggests in his book Brain Wave Vibration on a wide-benefit brain

The best thing you can do to bring a sense of hope to your life is to discover a sense of purpose. But how can you know your real purpose? Maybe you have searched for that for thirty or forty years and have never found the answer.

I cannot answer that question exactly for you because it is ultimately up to you. What I do know is that whatever your mission in life, you will be of great service to humanity. I believe that every person has a great internal desire to find a harmonious way of living on the planet and to contribute something of value to the world. In Korean we call this the Hong-ik ideal, which refers to the desire to be beneficial, not just to yourself but to all of humanity.

This sort of mind-set can be a great source of continual hope in your life. People who have a clear sense of purpose are never hopeless because they always know they can make a difference, even if just one step at a time.

There is a natural progression to life that unfortunately many of us have stepped away from. It is like many of us are caterpillars who have decided not to become butterflies. Or maybe we have just forgotten that we are able to become butterflies.

Brain Education is especially apporpriate for today’s children because it offers tools to cope with issues that are unique to the young generation. Children today are sometimes referred to as “Generation M” because media dominate their lives in so many ways. Media technology, such as cable television and the Internet, provides a constant and unlimited flow of information. Youngsters must choose which ideas to accept and which to reject. Their choices in this regard will affect their patterns of thinking about themselves and the world around them. The job of the educator and the parent is to help guide children in making these important decisions, which is a difficult task in a media culture more interested in selling jeans and cola than in creating well-rounded, confident individuals. Brain Education, in its essence, offers simple tools that provide children with the power to choose and use information more effectively.
