There is no such thing as death for the spiritually enlightened

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Many people have a limited view of their life. They believe they are born, live for a while and die. However, there is much more to the story than that, and understanding this fact could be an important component of spiritual growth.

Ilchi Lee talks about life being more cyclical. Rather than leaving the Earth at the end of our lives, our body lives on and becomes a part of the plants, animals and people around us. In this way, live is virtually limitless.

"Life is eternal," Lee said. "Just as we consume the life forces of our food, so we give our bodies back to the earth when we are finished with them."

In this view, everyone is connected in one great circle of life. We only exist because of those who came before us. Similarly, we will make life possible for those who follow us. This unbroken chain has existed since the dawn of man and will continue as long as the species endures.

Therefore, death is not something to be feared but is instead an opportunity for an individual to give back to the world.

Ilchi Lee recommends taking time out to appreciate one’s self

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Throughout the course of daily life individuals fill their time up with what they think is important. Running to the grocery store, getting the kids to soccer practice on time and making to the afternoon’s big meeting are often given precedent. However, Ilchi Lee says that this kind of life may leave little room for spiritual growth.

Instead, he advocates for taking time out of every day to reconnect with the natural self. This is the part of a person that exists truly and without influence from the outside world.

“Close your eyes. Put your hands on your chest. Focus on your heart. Your heart will be warm and you'll feel comfortable,” Lee said.

By engaging in this type of process, individuals may be able to find out what is really important in their lives. Rather than worrying about the stresses of the day, they will see that most of their concerns are not that vital to their existence or their spiritual growth. Instead, simply appreciating one’s natural self can help to reveal truer priorities.

Looking within may reveal life purpose

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Far too few people spend time thinking about their life purpose. They simply go through life from one experience to the next without setting out a plan that will allow them to leave their mark on the world. However, author and philosopher Ilchi Lee says that meditating on one's life purpose may make it appear more obvious.

"If you keep asking yourself, 'Why am I here?' you will learn what to let go of, and what you will gain in return," Lee said.

One of the most apparent things that a person who questions their existence may gain is a more obvious life purpose. Through the process of taking stock of both the good and bad in one's life, it may become possible to identify what is truly important.

Many people may feel afraid of this process. They may worry that it will reveal answers that they do not want to hear. But most often, individuals find that they come out on the other side of this type of quest with a better understanding of their true self, and this leads to feelings of greater contentment and fulfillment.

The moment is all we really have

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

All too often, people forget that the present moment is all they really have. They dwell on events of yesterday or fret endlessly about the worries of tomorrow. However, all this takes away their enjoyment of now.

Ilchi Lee recommends meditation and other techniques to help individuals live more in the present. He says that living now is one of the most important things a person can do to achieve greater fulfillment in their lives.

"No matter how beautiful or difficult your past was, it has passed," Lee said. "Your amazing future has not arrived yet. Everything is an illusion, except this present moment. Live right now, in this moment."

The advice may sound simple enough on its surface. However, when a person reflects upon it for longer, it becomes clear how difficult it can be to live entirely in the present. Past memories and future anticipations make a large percentage of the thoughts a person has in their daily life. It can be very difficult to limit this.

However, the rewards from living in the moment are great. It can help an individual to truly appreciate the things they have in their life and to move past worry and regret.

A few flaws can be all right

Friday, April 15th, 2011

Flaws are a simple fact of life. Everyone has them. No one can avoid them. No matter how hard a person tries, it is generally not possible for them to completely do away with all of their personal imperfections. However, Ilchi Lee asks, why should a person try so hard in the first place?

"Just because we learn the sun has black spots, can it suddenly not be the sun any more?" Lee queried. "And if even the sun has black spots, what's wrong with admitting we ourselves have some weak points? Just like the sun shining through the universe, we each have much to offer, despite our flaws. Do not be ashamed of your black spots."

Rather than running from flaws, individuals should learn to embrace them. They are what make a person unique and special. If everyone were exactly the same, the world would be an awfully boring place and there would be few new contributions to society.

Of course there a person can still have negative characteristics in their personality that could be improved upon. Ilchi Lee says these are the foundation of spiritual development. However, dwelling too long on these issues may be an exercise in futility that only interferes with a person's fulfillment.

Striving for honesty is most important in life

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

All too often, individuals put on masks to impress others. They think that they can change who they are in order to give those around them what they want. However, Ilchi Lee warns that this can stifle spiritual growth by interfering with a person's ability to exercise their true self.

"Don't try to become something fake to impress others, but be genuine, even in small, insignificant ways. Honesty is most valuable in the end," Lee said. "Our essence is like pure gold, and doesn't need to be plated with gold for looks. Don't waste your life making gilt which will disappear some day, no matter how impressive it looks from the outside."

It is a difficult lesson to learn in today's society. All day, individuals are bombarded with images from the media and from those around them of what they should look like, how they should act and things they should strive to attain in their lives. However, these images are not honest. They portray the ideals of advertising campaigns rather than individuals' desires.

Stepping away from these images and living a more honest and sincere life are the most important things a person can do to develop positively.

The best beauty plan is spiritual growth

Monday, April 4th, 2011

Many people worry about their image as they grow older. What once was smooth soon becomes wrinkly and muscles will eventually wither. However, Ilchi Lee says that people who spend too much time thinking of these things are forgetting about spiritual healing and missing the point of growing old.

"The faces of those who seek the soul get more peaceful and beautiful as they grow older," Lee said.

This isn't to say that seniors who seek spiritual growth will have a smooth complexion for many years to come. Instead, Lee is trying to say that these things become less relevant. Rather than always assessing a person's worth or their own value based on exterior characteristics, seniors can see what lies beneath the surface by examining their own soul.

Efforts to achieve spiritual growth are best made as early in life as possible. As Lee says, an individual's peace increases the longer they have been looking within themselves. Rather than waiting until it is too late, this type of journal should be started immediately.

Sincerity is at the heart of personal development

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Giving themselves an honest compliment is one of the most important things people can do in their daily lives. Ilchi Lee says that this encourages spiritual healing on a number of levels and can enable individuals to shed much of the negativity that they accumulate during the course of their days.

"What kinds of words do you say often? Everything you say is the expression of your mind," Lee said. "When we lose sincerity, we become lazy and discontented."

He recommends instead that individuals take an honest account of the things in their lives that are positive and the things that are negative. While a journey of personal development is mainly about ridding one's self of negativity and emotionally draining things, hanging on to positive aspects of one's life is equally important.

This is why sincerity is so important. It is the bedrock from which individuals are able to make assessments in their lives about what needs to be changed. A person's journey for personal change may start with a kind word to themselves.

Positive attitude is key when seeking personal growth

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

There can be little doubt that positive affirmations allow individuals to accomplish far more than do negative attitudes. Ilchi Lee says that channeling this type of energy may have major benefits for individuals who are pursuing positive changes in their lives.

This type of lifestyle change is never easy. Often, individuals encounter challenges that lay between them and their goals. These are the times that Ilchi Lee says it is most important remain positive and assertive.

"In moments of doubt, make fists and shout to yourself three times, 'I can do anything!'" he said.

This type of positive affirmation serves to remind individuals that no hill is too steep to climb. No river is too wide to cross. No challenge is too difficult to overcome. By keeping a positive attitude, nearly anything is possible.

It is important to keep this in mind on a journey of personal development. The path toward the ultimate goal of enlightenment and fulfillment may take many years and there may be many obstacles along the way, but humans are capable of accomplishing much more than they sometimes think they can.

Personal development spurs improvements globally

Monday, March 28th, 2011

Personal development is a tremendous undertaking in life that all people who feel unfulfilled and dissatisfied should consider. However, despite the benefits to the individual, the search for awakening should not necessarily be entirely self-focused.

One of the most positive aspects of seeking personal development is that the changes that occur in the individual may make them capable of caring for the rest of humanity. Ilchi Lee says that this is among the greatest benefits of personal change.

"Those who know how to comfort themselves can comfort others, and their heart is big enough to comfort the world," he said.

While there are many people in the world who could benefit from taking steps toward positive changes in their lives, few people recognize this need. Those who have already undergone a journey of personal development may be in a good position to help these individuals get their own quest started. This snowball effect could eventually lead to global positivity.

The only way the world will ever achieve peace is by individuals coming together to live in harmony. One person's efforts to improve their lives can help bring humanity closer to this goal.
